The US shale gas revolution could provide abig boost to the nation’s steel and chemicalcompanies as they reap the benefits of cheapernatural gas prices, company executives told theMarcellus Shale Gas Insight Conference inPhiladelphia this week.Pennsylvania-based US Steel is looking touse natural gas as a fuel in place of more expen-sive coke. Chief Executive John Surma told re-porters that gas can be over 50% cheaper on anenergy-equivalent basis than coke, leading inturn to lower steel prices.
