Second-quarter results released Tuesday by UK-listed integrated major BP revealed a net profit of $5.6 billion and an underlying operating profit of $8.89 billion — flattering when compared to quarterly losses booked a year earlier during BP’s disastrous Macondo blowout in the Gulf of Mexico. Nevertheless, the results were respectively some 5% and 4% shy of analysts’ forecast due to shortfalls against earnings expectations across both the upstream and downstream divisions.
