Norway's Statoil Takes 30% Stake in Tullow Block Offshore Suriname

Norwegian energy champion Statoil said on Friday it will take a 30% stake in the Block 47 license offshore Suriname operated by UK-listed Tullow Oil, which will hang on to the remaining 70%. Block 47 is home to one of three turbidite fan systems being explored by Tullow along what it terms the "Guyanas Trend" offshore northeastern South America. The other two are the Jaguar fan system in the Georgetown license offshore Guyana, where an exploration well on the Jaguar prospect should spud in December, and the Cingulata fan system on the Guyane Maritime license offshore French Guiana, where Tullow made the high-impact Zaedyus oil discovery in September (OD Sep.12'11).
