Robin Room, Former Editor of Contemporary Drug Problems, Wins Major International Award

On November 20,2015, the Drug Policy Alliance (USA) awarded its Alfred R. Lindesmith Award for 2015 to Professor Robin Room, Director of the Centre for Alcohol Policy Research at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, and Editor of Contemporary Drug Problems from 1985 to 2010. Professor Room, an international leader in alcohol and other drug research, is the author of over 25 books, 300 scholarly journal articles, and many other publications. He previously directed interdisciplinary centers for the study bf alcohol and other drugs in Sweden, Canada, and the US. His most recent books and reports include Drug Policy and the Public Good (2009, Oxford University Press), Cannabis Policy: Moving beyond Stalemate (2010, The Beckley Foundation & Oxford University Press), and Roadmaps to Reforming the UN Drug Conventions (2013, The Beckley Foundation), Professor Room's extraordinary and prolific scholarship over the past 50 years, driven by both his profound curiosity and a commitment to dealing with drug use and related problems in ways consistent with scientific evidence, compassion, and human rights, has powerfully informed and bolstered the global movement for drug policy reform.
