Fog of war clouds outlook for mining in Ukraine

The ongoing war in Ukraine's Donbas region has had a major effect on the coal mining industry. Coal has formed the economic heart of the provinces of Donetsk and Lugansk, which are now being contested by Ukrainian and Russian forces. Almost half of active mines in Donetsk and Lugansk have been forced to go off-line as a result of the fighting and overall production is believed to have dropped by 22%.
