EBRD supports Serbian coal with ?80 million loan

THE European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD) is to push ahead with plans to lend ?80 million (US$116 million) to help Serbia's main electricity company expand its coal production, despite objections from environmentalists. EBRD spokesman Sergiy Grytsenko said that, by helping Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) to modernise its coal-processing technology, the loan would reduce the amount of carbon pollution.
