Gold price gives Harmony record quarter

HARMONY Gold Mining Company Ltd has reported its highest-ever quarterly operating profit of R1.3 billion (US$183 million) for the three months to the end of September. Buoyed by a higher gold price and a weaker rand, the figure was 45% higher than the June quarter. Revenue of nearly R4 billion was also a record. The sharp increase in the gold price during the period was reflected in the company's average received price, which was 14% higher at US$1,727/ oz. A 5% weaker rand meant the price received in local currency was up an even more impressive 20% to R396,405/kg.
