Rivals set for showdown over Asarco

THE US Bankruptcy Court has ruled that failed copper miner Asarco LLC may be sold to Vedanta Resources plc. In May, Vedanta (through subsidiary Sterlite Industries) said it planned to buy the Tuscon, Arizona-based company for 2.6 billion US dollars. Asarco's parent company, Grupo Mexico SAB, said it opposed the sale and would do everything possible to stop the transaction.
