DRC outlines mining contract demands

THE Democratic Republic of the Congo's (DRC's) controversial review of 61 mining contracts took a new turn this week as the country outlined its recommendations in letters to the companies involved. The DRC said that the letters summarised the review's findings, and were issued in response to Vice Minister of Mines Victor Kasongo's comments at the mining Indaba in South Africa on February 5. Companies that have responded to the letters, including Lundin Mining Corp and Banro Corp, said the letters requested further discussion with the DRC's government on a number of issues, and that they had been given until February 27 to respond.
