EUROPEAN Nickel plc plans to step up work at the Acoje nickel laterite project in the Philippines (a joint venture with Rusina Mining NL), following positive results from testing the company's novel heap-leaching technology. "The nickel laterites leach quite well and we have now purchased some land for a test site," managing director Simon Purkiss told Mining Journal. "We do need to demonstrate that [the technology] can leach both through the life of the project and in the high rainfall area," he said.
