EMED takes helm at Rio Tinto mine

EMED Mining Public Ltd has agreed to buy MRI Group's 49 percent interest in the Rio Tinto copper mine in Spain's Andalucia region, in a deal worth about 50.5 million pounds (90.08 million US dollars). The company is confident of achieving regulatory approval from Spain's regional government over the coming six months and plans to seek shareholder approval for the restart of the mine, the country's largest, with production of copper-in-concentrate expected to begin in the December quarter of 2009.
