Foryears, it has been understood and accepted that ferro-tungsten and ammonium paratungstate(APT) will fetch higher prices in China and East Asia than they will in Europe. There are two key reasonsforthe disparity between the European and Chinese prices: the exportduty on material coming out of China, and the high price of tungsten concentrate in China. The gap between the prices has now begun to close on an increase in demand and a shortage of ferro-tungsten in Europe - and the same may be said of APT- but there are those who would argue that there should be no gap at all.
