Eskom averts strike but problems grow

South African state-owned power company Eskom avoided a strike by workers earlier this month by raising its wage increase offer to 10.5% from 8%. The energy provider made the offer to members of the National Union of Metalworkers, the National Union of Mineworkers and Solidarity, but put off demands for a 5,000 rand (621 dollars) housing allowance made by the three unions.
