China jv targets 450,000 tpy from Afghan mine

Jiangxi Copperand China Metallurgical Group Corp (MCC) will jointly produce 450,000 tpy of copper concentrates from their Afghan copper mine in the first stage, which is scheduled to be commissioned by 2011, a senior official at MCC said. “We will become the biggest copper concentrates supplier in Asia [when it is commissioned],” he added. “The average grade will be 40% in the first stage. Later, we plan to produce 500,000 tpy of concentrates.”
