ArcelorMittal has reinforced its commitment to its Gandrange works in northeastern France in the wake of angry protests from plant workers last week after they discovered 575 jobs were to be lost at the site. The company said that it is working with the unions to "secure a sustainable and viable future [for the Gandrange operation], which has been consistently loss-making despite continuous investment".
