More effort required on steel cuts, says NDRC chief Ma Kai

China closed 15.21 million tonnes of outdated crude steel capacity last year, less than half the target of 35 million tonnes, said National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) head Ma Kai at a recent meeting. The country also closed 29.4 million tonnes of outdated ironmaking capacity, just short of the target of 30 million tonnes, according to a report on the NDRC website.
