Xstrata sells aluminium ops for 1.15 billion dollars in cash

Xstrata has sold the aluminium business it inherited when it bought Falconbridge .last year to private equity firm Apollo Management LP for some 1.15 billion dollars in cash, in a move that will help it finance its aggressive acquisition strategy. The disposal follows a strategic review, which looked at a number of options for the assets, including an assessment of their potential as a platform from which to establish a substantial .aluminium business, and of the prospects for a whole or partial sale of the business, Xstrata said last week.
