LONDON - European stainless steel prices are set to rise to their highest level in more than three years on the back of strong demand and fears about production problems at one of the continent's largest mills. The base price for standard 304 grade 2mm cold rolled stainless strip could reach ?1,800 per tonne for October delivery, according to sources close to two of Europe's main producers. This would be almost ?300 per tonne higher than the highest price previously recorded by MB since it began quoting the EU domestic price for stainless steel in 2003.
