Brazil's CVRD considers raising its iron ore price proposal

RIO DE JANEIRO - Brazil's CVRD is in "no hurry" to conclude this year's iron ore price negotiations and "does not rule out the possibility of upping its proposal" for a price increase, company executive director, Tito Martins, told journalists last week. "When we asked for 24.6 percent we had no idea the market would turn out as strong as it has done,' Martins said, noting that China's first-quarter iron ore consumption registered an increase of no less than 28-29 percent over first-quarter 2005 levels. "The negotiations are going well. We are in no hurry and have no intention of accelerating anything. Time has shown that our request [for a 24.6 percent price increase] is in line with the market, which could yet show greater growth," he said.
