Boliden to boost nickel smelting

Swedish integrated copper, zinc and nickel producer Boliden will increase its nickel matte output to full capacity at its Harjavalta smelter in Finland after entering into a three-way agreement with US-based metals special chemicals producer OM Group and Canadian nickel producer Inco to supply nickel concentrate to the plant. OMG and Inco will provide a total of 240,000 tonnes of nickel concentrate to the plant in a three-year deal that comes into force in July. A company spokesman confirmed that this is the plant's total capacity feed for nickel smelting. The plant also has capacity to produce 160,000 tpy of copper.
