The value of mergers and acquisitions in the mining sector (non-fuel minerals) soared to over 40bn dollars in 2001, more than the total of 1999 and 2000 put together, according to a report from the research company Raw Materials Group (RMG).The number of deals completed did not increase significantly. RMG said that 81 mergers and acquisitions were completed during the year, just one more than in 2000, and well down on the 100 achieved in 1999.
