Modernisation work is under way to double hot rolling capacity to 2.5m tpy at Baosteel Group's Meishan plant in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.The 1.3bn yuan (157m dollars) expansion of Meishan's hot strip mill, which was supplied by Japan's Nippon Steel in the early 1990s, is expected to be complete by the middle of 2003. The plant will be capable of rolling hot sheets down to a thickness of 1.2mm on completion of the upgrade, said a Meishan official, compared to 2mm at present.
