USDAs Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture (AC21) will make one last try to reach consensus on coexistence of biotech and non-biotech crops, when it meets late this month, in Washington, D.C. At its last meeting in late May, the AC21 reached tentative agreement that a crop insurance program for organic and other non-biotech commodities might be a good idea, as long as Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack examines solid data and decides that a compensation mechanism is needed (see FCN June 1, 2012, Page 5).
