USDA releases new instructions for food safety assessments

USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service has updated Directive 5100.1, Revision 3, Enforcement, Investigations and Analysis Officer (EIAO) Food Safety Assessment Methodology, providing inspectors who conduct food safety assessments (FSAs) with a new work methodology for those tasks.The 43-page document, published Tuesday, is "designed to increase consistency in conducting FSAs and in preparing FSA report documentation for the Public Health Information System (PHIS)." The agency hopes that increased consistency "will facilitate analysis of the data that can be derived from FSAs."
