U.S. hails progress in developing Codex food inspection text

The United States on Tuesday praised the Codex Committee on Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems (CCFICS) for making "good progress" in developing a document to help Codex member countries improve their food safety systems for domestic and exported foods.When the CCFICS met last week, in Cairns, Australia, the U.S. delegation was prepared to oppose fast-track adoption of the Proposed Draft Principles and Guidelines for National Food Control Systems. The U.S. didn't have a problem with the contents of the document, but officials argued at a public preparatory meeting earlier this month that more details were needed, and they didn't like the way it was organized (see FCN Oct. 7,2011, Page 8).
