China: Yihua announces notice to stop production

Chinese fertilizer producer Yihua announced on December 17 that it received a notice from the environmental protection Bureau of Yichang to stop fertilizer production at its Yichang operations to correct an environmental issue. The bureau is believed to have also asked the company to pay a fine of RMB 2.52 million ($363,000). Yihua was recently the centre of a CCTV news report regarding possible water pollution from its operations in Yichang. The company argued at the time that run off from the plant was safe cooling water from its thermal power plant in the region.
