The letter from Dr. Pompe et al regarding our paper (1) poses, in our view, one interesting question. They ask if we had any difference in the inflammatory responses when the time for repetitive endotoxin provocation was taken into consideration.We have, in our group, published several papers using the same setting, i.e., double-blind, crossover design with endotoxin and intervention (2-4) always using 4 wks as a minimum washout period.We have not taken into consideration the question of development of tolerance with this regime.
