Europe: Prices unchanged on lack of business

The European market remained balanced for now, though there was still concern about second half pressure. Spot prices were still assessed at $0-10/mt FOB Northwest Europe, with no new spot business reported. Maintenance turnarounds are keeping availability limited, while intra-European demand remains relatively strong. Aurubis’s Pirdop plant in Bulgaria and KGHM’s Glogow plant in Poland are undergoing extended outages this month. In addition, Boliden is conducting maintenance on its Finnish smelters in Q2. There have also been reports of production issues in Europe.
