Sharp increase in volume of Egyptian rock imports in 2014

GTIS data show 2014 phosphate rock imports into India at 8.26 million mt, up on the 7.2 million mt imported in 2013 but not as high as the record level in 2012 of 9.4 million mt. Comparatively high phosphoric acid costs prompted more interest in the import of phosphate rock and sulphur as a cheaper alternative, for those producers with captive phosphoric acid capacity. At 3.1 million mt phosphate rock, Jordan retained the highest market share last year at 37%, but slightly down on previous years when it was over 40%.
