Fertilizer business makes very positive contribution to Vale's 2010 results

BRAZILIAN MINING major Vale last week reported its global financial results for the 12 months to December 31, 2010. "2010 is Vale's best ever achieved annual result, characterised by all-time high figures for operating revenues, operating income, operating margin, cash generation and net earnings", the company said in its report. The net earnings for the year of $17.3 billion are seen by Vale as the greatest ever in the mining industry (FW Online, February 25, 2010).
