Exfoliated SnS2 Nanoplates for Enhancing Direct Electrochemical Glucose Sensing

A simple, organic solvent free ultrasonic exfoliation method was developed to produce exfoliated SnS2 nanoplates of an average size of 24 nm and thickness of 8 nm. These SnS2 nanoplates were decorated onto the surfaces of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) to serve as the sensing electrode for glucose oxidase (GOx) based direct electron transfer sensing of glucose. The decoration of exfoliated SnS2 nanoplates significantly improved hydrophilicity of the electrode and the electron transfer micro-environment between the redox-active site of GOx and the electrode surface, both beneficial to the direct electron transfer sensing of glucose. A high sensitivity of 28.9 mu A/mM cm(2) was achieved, 1.77 times that of the SnS2-free case and among the highest reported for CNT and GOx based direct electrochemical glucose sensing.
