Decision on steel import curbs only by July end

THE government will take a decision by the month-end whether to impose a special import duty of 25 percent on flat steel products to protect the interest of domestic manufacturers. The special duty, called the safeguard duty, is imposed in case there is a surge in imports of a product that would lead to market disruption.
