The impact of low oil prices on exploration and production players has seen the USA’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) ask compa- nies to post bonds proving they can afford to plug and abandon mature wells. These bonds have boosted the cost of doing business in the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM), accord- ing to officials with Ernst & Young (E&Y).
