…as Lukoil starts West Qurna 2

Lukoil has kicked off commercial production from the giant West Qurna 2 oil field in Iraq. Production from West Qurna 2, which has recoverable reserves estimated of around 14 Bn bbl, is expected to increase to 400,000 b/d by year-end from an initial rate of 120,000 b/d. Iraq’s Oil Minister Abdul Kareem Luaibi said this would enable Iraq to reach a production target of 4m b/d for 2014 when he formally turned on the taps at the field’s inauguration ceremony on Saturday.
