BP is reported to be preparing to sign an initial deal in early September to revamp Iraq’s northern Kirkuk oil field. The field straddles the border with the autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq. A deal at Kirkuk would allow BP to negotiate access to significant reserves in the north. Baghdad would get an experienced partner to help combat a huge decline in output from Kirkuk, Reuters reported.
