China’s Afghanistan oil project

State-owned China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) has been given the green light by Afghanistan’s Cabinet to develop a small oil and gas field in northern Afghanistan, as well as start exploration activity in the Amu River Basin. Last year, CNPC signed a contract with the gov- ernment to develop the oil field in Sar-i-Pul province.
