Statoil has unveiled plans to develop the UK North Sea Mariner and Mariner East heavy oil fields with a newbuild platform and Floating Storage and Offloading unit (FSU). The Mariner Area development covers the Mariner field located in part Block 9/11a of the UK northern North Sea, together with the smaller nearby Mariner East field in part Block 9/11b. The overall development proposal includes 50 wells and 92 sidetracks on the Mariner field and four wells on Mariner East, the installation of a production, drilling and quarters (PDQ) platform, a subsea drilling template, an FSU and associated infield, import and export pipelines.
