Shell has secured one of the last permits it needs to start exploration drilling in the US sector of the Arctic Ocean this summer. The major proved to federal regulators that it can operate without harming whales and seals. Shell has now been given incidental harassment authorisation from the US National Marine Fisheries Service. This means the operator has now cleared one of the last obstacles before it can kick off drilling in the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea.
