Spain’s Repsol YPF has spudded a deepwater exploration well 50km north of Havana, Cuba, that will take at least 60 days to complete, according to local reports. Repsol is trying again in Cuba after previous exploration activity in Cuba in 2004 found noncommercial oil. The Spanish operator and its partners Statoil of Norway and India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) are using Saipem’s Scarabeo 9 unit to drill the probe.
