The Iraqi cabinet has approved a deal worth up to$17.2 Bn for to capture and process gas fromthree huge oil fields – Rumaila, West Qurna phase1 and Zubair – in the southern region of Basra.Al Dabbadh said the production capacity wouldbe 2 Bcf/d (56.7 MMcm/d) of gas.Around 700 MMcf/d (19.83 MMcm/d) of gas iscurrently burned off each day in southern Iraq. Atcurrent prices, the gas is worth about $1.8 Bn ayear, said Shell.
