Drilling contractor KCA Deutag has won a new drilling contract from Statoil to carry out work on the Kvitebjorn gas and condensate field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). The contract is for two years with the option to extend by two further periods of two years each. KCA said: "At Kvitebjorn the utilisation of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) technology is necessary to be able to drill in a depleted reservoir at a depth of 13,124ft (4,000m) with high temperatures and under high pressure. KCA Deutag has cooperated closely with Statoil in developing the MPD technology used at Kvitebjorn."
