Algeria is keen to push ahead with a new licensing round and award new blocks by the end of this year - but the government does not plan to change the fiscal terms. In Algeria's last licensing round, completed in December last year, only three out of 10 permits on offer were awarded, with many operators saying that the financial terms were not attractive enough to take on blocks. Energy and Mines Minister Chakib Khelil said the licensing round should be completed by December. Khelil said in the new round Algeria will take a new approach by removing any permits from the bidding if there was not enough interest.
