Bengal eyes Indian play

Bengal Energy reports that the state government of Tamil Nadu has granted a four-year licence for Block CY-ONN-2005/1 in India's Cauvery Basin. GAIL will operate the block with a 40% stake, while Bengal has 30% and Gujarat State Petroleum Corp holds the remaining 30%. Exploration work is due to start immediately. In the first year of the licence, Bengal and its partners plan to undertake 2,300km of airborne magnetometry and reprocess 1,700km of 2D seismic data. Subsequent design and acquisition of a large area 3D seismic programme will follow. Exploration drilling targets have already been identified from a variety of different play types at drilling depths ranging from 1,641-6,562ft (500-2,000m). Exploration targets are anticipated to be mature enough for drilling in 2011.
