Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has become an indispensable tool for the rapid testing of various biological specimens and fluids for the presence of microorganisms. In order to maintain sensitivity, standardized conditions for sampling, purification of microbial DNA and the subsequent PCR test are mandatory. The general validation of the MagNA Pure Instrument for RNA and DNA isolation has proven constant performance in previous studies. The LightCycler Instrument on the other hand, is of help for accurate fast cycling. In order to save time subsequent testing of multiple targets form one sample in less than four hours is of relevance.
