ExxonMobil has spudded the first of two important deepwater wildcats offshore Equatorial Guinea.The US supermajor is using the Premier Drilling Deep Venture drillship on the Esmerelda-2 well in Block B. Partner Devon said Esmerelda is a rich gas condensate that has the potential to rival Zafiro in terms of value.The firm puts the mean resource potential at 302m bbl of condensate.The discovery well was drilled to a total depth of 16,000ft (4,875m) in 2,248ft (685m) of water 5km southwest of Zafiro. Hydrocarbons were discovered in three zones in the Miocene formation, the most significant had 90ft (27m) of net gas/condensate pay.
