French major Total has boosted plans for a new oil project in an ultra-deep frontier area of the Gulf of Mexico after revealing another exploration success.The firm said its Alaminos Canyon Block 856 No.2 appraisal well encountered 85ft (26m) of oil pay in the main objective. The well was drilled by the Stena Tay rig in 7,800ft (2,377m) of water to a total depth of 15,625ft (4,762m).
