In the 1990s, if you were applying Honeywell DE, you soon found your trusty old Fluke 87 DMM wasn't going to be much use for troubleshooting or "calibration." The Honeywell DE devices were constantly modulating the mA signal thousands of times a second. Sure, you could see evidence the device was "alive" and communicating, but the test that had the most merit was to ask, does the DCS "see" it, and is it communicating? If the answer to those two simple questions was "yes," you were close to finished.
