EU Leaders Unveil Energy Union to Reduce Dependency on Russia

The EU's top energy officials on Friday outlined their vision of a grandiose soon-to-belaunched project that aims to intensify integration of a market for some 600 million energy consumers in up to 36 countries on the continent. The ambitious project, dubbed the Energy Union, is divided into five broad "mutually reinforcing set of policies" -- security of supply, single market space, efficiency, decarbonization and innovation -- that, in the words of officials meeting at a conference in Riga, Latvia, will foster "free-flowing energies in the European Union."
