Low Energy Prices Boost Japanese Tepco's Profits

Embattled Fukushima operator Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) eked out a consolidated profit for the fiscal year 2014 ending Mar. 31 for the second consecutive time since the nuclear meltdown in March 2011, thanks to lower energy prices and ongoing cost-cutting efforts. Japan's biggest power utility and LNG buyer saw operating income jump 65% year-on-year to 316.5 billion yen ($2.66 billion), while net profit rose 2.9% to 451.5 billion yen.
