Royal Dutch Shell this week unveiled more details of its planned multibillion-dollar project to decommission the giant North Sea Brent oil field, a former cornerstone of UK oil output. At its peak in 1982, the field, from which the Brent crude index got its name, produced more than 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (IOD Nov.4'14).
